Lincolnshire Posy and Three Japanese Dances were recorded on March 2, 1958, on 3-track half-inch tape using one 201 and two M56 Telefunken microphones. The performances were originally released on SR90173.

The Eastman Wind Ensemble provides a tremendous performance of the piece, and of all the works on the album. I must admit that I usually only listen to 'Lincolnshire' and 'Hill Song' because I'm a bit of a Grainger fan, but all the music if great, especially Persichetti's 'Symphony for Band' and Rogers' 'Three Japanese Dances'. Of all of the excellent re-releases of the Fennell/Eastman Wind Ensemble recordings, this album is de rigueur for any connoisseur of music for band and wind ensemble. The famous Fennell sound is superbly exhibited in masterful interpretations of two of the most exquisite compositions written directly for winds: Lincolnshire Posy and Persichetti's Symphony for Band. For decades these recordings set the standard by which other performances were judged.

Frederick Fennell (July 2, 1914 – December 7, 2004) was an internationally recognized conductor, and one of the primary figures in promoting the Eastman Wind Ensemble as a performing group. He was also influential as a band pedagogue, and greatly affected the field of music education in the USA and abroad. In Fennell's New York Times obituary, colleague Jerry F. Junkin was quoted as saying "He was arguably the most famous band conductor since John Philip Sousa.
