Floridian metalcore merchants unleash the beast. (Disambiguation) - Excellent, Based on 4 Critics. Well holy fucking shit, Underøath’s seventh full-length is a quite stunning album. With Spencer Chamberlain taking sole singing duties since the departure of clean vocalist, drummer Aaron Gillespie, and ex-Norma Jean sticksman Daniel Davison behind the kit, it’s a master-class in compelling, ambitious heavy music from the Floridians.

This album is the last from the (recently reunited) Underoath, enlisting Daniel Davison on drums. It's sounds like a band knowing they are going out for the count, and want to deliver one Falcon-punch like blow before that happens. In Division perfectly opens the album, it really serves as a hand-holder for the rest of the mayhem. Almost radio-ready, there are hints of groove metal. Paper Lung delivers the most serene, beautiful song on the record...until it absolutely explodes with fury at the end. Spencer's voice is one of the best in metal, and they could have easily carried on without Aaron. Songs such as "Who Will Guard the Guardians" are jarring upon first listen, but it is an evolved sound with Tim and Spencer doing most of the writing, and the drums being completely different from Gillespie. Vacant Mouth shreds its guitar strings to bits, and Daniel must've destroyed at least a couple kits on that song. My Deteriorating Incline must be braced for, as it hits as hard as ANY song by the heaviest bands. And In Completion is very similar to ending songs on albums that preceded it. Garden variety Underoath is still better than 90% of music, though. I think we will get another record, but if this was truly their final bow, both Disambiguation and their career have been hard-to-pin-down, emotion-filled roller coasters. Best song: Paper Lung
